At the 2006 Community Media-tion Robert Zampano Excellence in Mediation Award ceremonies, three deserving mediation practitioners were recognized. Very appropriately, my fellow columnist, the Hon. Beverly Hodgson, has already devoted an entire column to the accomplishments of the three distinguished recipients: Roberta Friedman, George Manning and Elga Wasserman.

But Wasserman, an individual of enviable accomplishment, made a comment during her acceptance remarks which caught my attention and deserves further exploration. She mentioned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry, which she earned prior to her J.D., and then suggested that there was certain chemistry in mediation as well.
