Cameras in courtrooms, unsealed financial affidavits in divorces and Internet listing of criminal dockets and convictions are some of the key innovations advanced in two omnibus legislative bills seeking improved public access to the court system.
One raised bill tracks the work of the Judicial Branch Public Access Task Force, which on Sept. 15 presented 38 recommendations for greater court openness. That bill presumes various judicial committee meetings are open to the public, and provides a mechanism for going into closed session for topics that are exempt under the state Freedom of Information Act.
