Stephen L. Nightingale, chief counsel for ING Americas, has been elected president of Greater Hartford Legal Aid.Nightingale has served on GHLA’s board of directors since 1998. He has also chaired the annual Legal Aid “Justice Is…” student art contest since 1999. Also recently elected to new positions are: Albert Zakarian of Day Berry & Howard, as vice president; Pat Wrice of Operation Fuel, as secretary; Francis J. Brady of Murtha Cullina, as treasurer; and Richard Brown of the Urban League of Greater Hartford Inc., as chairman of the board’s personnel committee.

Serving as directors on the board are: state Rep. Eric Coleman, D-Bloomfield; Alice Farrell of Catholic Family Services; Todd Fernow of the University of Connecticut School of Law Legal Clinic; John H. Lawrence Jr. of Shipman & Goodwin; Hartford attorney Ramona Mercado-Espinoza; Alice Pritchard of the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund; Scott A. Trenholm of Carlin, Charron & Rosen; Richard F. Vitarelli of Robinson & Cole; and Diane Whitney of Pullman & Comley. Greater Hartford Legal Aid provides civil legal services free of charge to people living in poverty throughout Hartford County.
