Proposals to revise Connecticut’s rules on lawyer advertising for the first time in 30 years has become a rallying point for attorneys who resent competition from other states and other professions.

At a public hearing Jan. 19 before the 14-member Committee on Lawyer Advertising, Stamford medical malpractice attorney Richard A. Silver urged the panel to recommend that television advertisements be required to display "the name of at least one lawyer admitted in Connecticut responsible for the potential client, as well as the responsible lawyer’s address and Connecticut telephone number," in bold for the ad’s duration.
