Judge Richard Damiani loved being a judge. He thrived on the work. He was energized by it. He enjoyed making the gears mesh and making the engine run. He was blunt and direct. He prided himself on knowing that, at the end of the day, he got the job done.

In the days of black and white TV, variety shows were a staple. Singers, dancers, acrobats, musicians. Inevitably there would be a performer who, in today’s parlance, we would call a multi-tasker. He would balance a ball on his head while juggling Indian clubs, standing on one foot and rotating a set of rings on his other leg while the band played “Lady of Spain.” That was entertainment.
