Manchester attorney Ryan Barry, a former state legislator who co-chaired the Banks Committee, isn’t a wild-eyed conspiracy theorist. A young father and Cub Scout leader, he’s optimistic and apple-pie American in his outlook, but he’s beginning to suspect that former Manchester car dealer Haidar “Harry” Abushaqra has either been mysteriously nabbed by government agents, or is otherwise involved in a post-9/11 anti-terror program too hush-hush to legally verify.
Barry appeared before Manchester Superior Court Judge Carl E. Taylor on Sept. 26 with an unusual request. He’s representing Hartford’s A-OK Bail Bonds, which has guaranteed Abushaqra’s appearance if he can actually be produced. Abushaqra was arrested on six larceny counts stemming from a used car dealership he formerly operated in Manchester. One customer reported him for not returning a car deposit, and several banks alleged vehicle financing irregularities.
