Unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly referred to as drones, have already revolutionized modern warfare and, in the near future, will be deployed domestically on a large scale.
In February, President Barack Obama signed the Federal Aviation Administration Modernization and Reform Act, which requires the FAA to “develop a comprehensive plan to safely accelerate the integration of civil unmanned aircraft systems” into U.S. airspace by October 2015. This law ensures that our skies will soon be teeming with drones with the FAA predicting that there will be 30,000 drones in U.S. skies within the next 20 years. While this law contemplates and hastens the large scale deployment of domestic drones by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, it offers little in specifics about how drones can be used.
