Judge Lawrence L. Hauser died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at the age of 69 after a battle with an undisclosed illness. At the time of his death, he was presiding over cases in housing court at Norwalk Superior Court and on the verge of becoming a judge trial referee.

In addition to his daily responsibilities in the courtroom, Judge Hauser labored long and hard in the area of domestic violence. In 1996, Judge Hauser started the state’s first court dedicated to handle just domestic violence cases. The court would become the model for similar courts around the state. His expertise in this area was well known and recognized in Connecticut as well as nationally. He accomplished a great deal in this area giving his colleagues and others a much greater understanding of this troubling problem in our society.
