Senators Richard Blumenthal and Christopher Murphy are busy at work this month interviewing candidates to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court in Connecticut. Because the participants in this interviewing process are sworn to secrecy, we’ll never know who was interviewed. By custom, only the names of the finalists are leaked to the press as part of the vetting process, in an effort to see whether bad news the committee might have missed floats to the surface.
I write today to block any effort to nominate Connecticut United States Attorney David Fein for appointment to the federal bench. In his four-year tenure as top federal prosecutor in Connecticut, he has not shown the requisite commitment to fair play and respect for the rule of law necessary to inspire confidence as a federal judge.
