When people talk about the Sweet 16 this time of year, it’s usually a reference to top teams in the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournament. But this March, the reference can be made to the 16 attorneys nominated by Gov. Dannel Malloy for Superior Court judgeships.

The nominees, announced March 14, include the mayor of Manchester, the chair of the state’s parole board, an in-house attorney at a major insurance company, an assistant attorney general, two supervisory assistant state’s attorneys and several prominent private practice attorneys, including Steven Ecker, from Cowdery, Ecker & Murphy in Hartford, and Irene Jacobs, from Jacobs & Jacobs in New Haven.
