Back in February, Kristen Rich testified before a legislative committee in favor of a bill that would have allowed Connecticut’s probate court workers to unionize. Rich, who was then a clerk in the Stamford Probate Court, said she was unhappy about pay and concerned about job security.

Shortly after that testimony, Rich was fired. She filed a complaint with state Board of Labor Relations, claiming she was dismissed for her unionizing attempts. Further, she said her attempts to collect unemployment insurance were thwarted. Her boss, Stamford Probate Judge Gerald Fox Jr., has said the termination wasn’t linked to Rich’s pro-union stance, but he has otherwise declined to elaborate.
