A New Britain criminal defense lawyer who was convicted in October 2008 of tampering with and bribing a witness has applied to be reinstated to practice law.

Robert Karanian, now in his early 60s, was fined $10,000 and given a five-year suspended jail sentence by a Waterbury Superior Court judge. He was found not guilty of a larceny charge that could have sent him to prison for up to 20 years.
