The family of a Dayville man who was killed when he fell down an elevator shaft while doing welding work at a construction site has settled their wrongful death lawsuit for $1.5 million.

According to the Reardon Law Firm of New London, which represented the family, Brian Millett received a phone call at 6 p.m. on July 31, 2008 and was asked to do a quick welding job at a new Hampton Inn in Enfield. Millett moonlighted as a self-employed welder when not working as an inspector for a commercial construction company.
