With hopes of attracting legal work and a stake in biotechnology and other start-up companies, a Hartford law firm has created its own business accelerator.

In an arrangement billed as the first of its kind in the state, the 13-attorney firm of Cohn Birnbaum & Shea has created a separate limited liability corporation called Accelerated Ventures. Up and running since August, the venture is looking for about a dozen start-up companies to work with.
