Ravin Walters v Billy Ray Smith et al.: A young man who claimed he was attacked by four men while walking along an usually quiet bike path near the University of Connecticut campus in Storrs recently was awarded more than $320,000 in damages.

Ravin Walters claims he was left permanently disfigured by his alleged assailants—Billy Ray Smith, Andre French, Timothy Doyle and Roy Ketchum. While French was cleared by a jury, the other three men were ordered to pay between $58,836 (Doyle and Ketchum) and $208,836 each (Smith). Smith’s total was substantially higher because he bit Walters’ ear, tearing off a chunk that had to be surgically reconstructed.
