I will never be as prolific a writer as fellow Law Tribune columnist Norm Pattis. The guy seems to never sleep. Interestingly, though, twice in the recent past he has revealed hints of mortality. First, that he was getting tired of burning the candle at both ends, and more recently described in an article about a visit to the emergency room with a suspected heart attack. I feel his pain.

Much of lawyering is a young person’s game. I just got back from Houston where I was testifying in a matter. The judge had a habit of asking for overnight briefs. I can only imagine what it was like for the lawyers back at the office to get their daily assignment at 5 p.m. Sleep deprivation seemed to be the common denominator of lawyers on both sides of the case.
