The decision to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle that gunman Adam Lanza used to kill 26 children and teachers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School was made after a careful review of the legal issues by the plaintiff’s lawyers.

Michael Koskoff, of the Bridgeport firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder which filed the lawsuit on behalf of 10 families on Dec. 13, said there “is enough fault to go around.” Some have pointed at the actions of Lanza’s mother, Nancy Lanza, who was also killed and who had given her son access to firearms, Koskoff said. Others have considered the violent video games Lanza was fond of playing, or whether mental health professionals did all they could to prevent the tragedy.
