If there is one constant message you hear in bar leadership programs it is that you can never tell what is going to spring up and dominate your time and attention. Despite the fact that the law doesn’t favor quick changes, especially in the Land of Steady Habits, it is often the case that unforeseen circumstances bubble to the surface and consume huge amounts of time, resources and energy.

In 2014, the guardian ad litem issue at the legislature and the proposal to weigh into the legal debate over Connecticut’s regulation of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines pretty much came from nowhere and yet were front and center on many agendas. Thus, it’s dangerous to predict the year (or decade) ahead, as the only thing certain is uncertainty. Nevertheless, there are some issues I suspect will take a lot of our attention.
