Legal malpractice defense lawyers have been working to keep the renowned plaintiffs personal injury firm of Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder from having to defend itself in a public courtroom before a judge or jury.

The Bridgeport-based Koskoff firm and Hartford-based Day Pitney are defendants in a 16-count legal malpractice claim filed by former clients who won a $25 million settlement in 2012. The clients claim they were overcharged about $4.3 million in legal fees, citing a contingency fee formula established by a state statute and recited in their 2003 retainer agreement.
