After spending almost a dozen years at the Connecticut Bar Association in various roles, Donald Philips decided he wanted to become the leader of a bar group. So he went back to school to get a graduate certificate from the University of Connecticut in nonprofit management, which has led him to what he says is his dream job: executive director of the Connecticut Bar Foundation.

Philips will start in late April in order to overlap for a period with Sandy Klebanoff, who is retiring from the foundation in May after more than 20 years with the organization. After that, he will fly solo as leader of a foundation that plays a key role in raising and distributing money for the state’s legal aid agencies that provide services to low-income residents.
