It all started, more of less, with an old television set. But it quickly escalated into an accusation of theft, and then slander and then a $60,000 civil verdict.

In 2007, there was an eviction in Cheshire. The town took the tenant’s furniture and other items, including a TV/VCR combo, and put them into temporary storage in a town garage. Figuring that the TV was destined for disposal, public works maintenance worker Richard Guerrera took it home.
