For more than 30 years, Robert Killian served as the lone judge for all probate matters in Hartford.

Over that time, he estimated that he handled more than 50,000 cases. Those matters commonly included appointing conservators for neglected or abused children, or committing people with mental illness. He also made decisions in thousands of contested last wills and testaments.
