Clerks and other employees of Connecticut’s Probate Court system feel they are poorly treated compared to other state workers, and so the probate staffers are pushing for legislation that would allow them to unionize.

Council 4 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the probate workers are hopeful they can get lawmakers to take up the matter before the legislative session ends June 3. The next step is for the bill to be assigned to either the Appropriations Committee or Judiciary Committee. “We’re hopeful. We’re pushing” for a vote, said AFSCME spokesman Larry Dorman.
