Civil litigation over a 2008 drug raid in Easton that left one man dead and another claiming injuries is headed to trial, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent refusal to consider an appeal by law enforcement and town officials involved.

The estate of Gonzalo Guizan and the homeowner, Ronald Terebesi, filed lawsuits in U.S. District Court against Easton, Trumbull, Monroe, Darien and Wilton, and several police officials. The towns all provided members of the SWAT-like team that took part in the raid, which has been widely criticized by civil rights attorneys and civil liberties advocates as an egregious example of excessive use of force.
