Federal Trade Commission, all Fifty States, and the District of Columbia v. Cancer Fund of America: Connecticut and all 49 other states have filed a federal lawsuit against four sham cancer charities and those responsible for their operation. At the same time state and federal officials announced the litigation filed in U.S. District Court in Arizona, they also announced that settlements had been reached with several of the defendants for around $136 million in assets.

All together, officials say the fraud focused on one Tennessee man and his family who used much of the $187 million they purportedly collected for cancer patients to buy themselves cars, gym memberships and take luxury cruise vacations, pay for college tuition and employ family members with six-figure salaries.
