Richard J. Colangelo Jr. will have some big shoes to fill. A state prosecutor for more than two decades, he has been named state’s attorney for the Stamford-Norwalk Judicial District. He’ll replace David I. Cohen, who is retiring after more than 37 years as a prosecutor, the last 14 as state’s attorney in the Stamford-Norwalk district.

Colangelo was appointed by a unanimous vote of the Criminal Justice Commission to complete the remainder of Cohen’s eight-year term, which will run through 2018. Colangelo joined the Division of Criminal Justice in March 1993 and was promoted to his current position as senior assistant state’s attorney in Stamford Superior Court in July 2003.
