The family of a young black attorney from Redding has taken the next step in investigating his death.

Abraham “Abe” Dabela, a former Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker associate who had opened his own solo practice, was found dead in Redding in April 2014. His SUV had crashed while going around a turn, but police responding to the scene say he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His family and the Connecticut branch of the NAACP have questioned that conclusion, suggesting that Dabela might have been targeted because of his race.
