Employees who report improper conduct by their company could enjoy greater protection from possible retaliation following a ruling by the Connecticut Supreme Court.
The justices, in a unanimous decision, stated that employers should not be able to discipline or terminate employees who speak up at work about issues of public concern or illegal actions. The decision in Trusz v. UBS Realty Investors comes in the case of a manager at the Hartford office of Swiss financial services giant UBS AG who lost his job after spreading word that the firm had overstated the value of its holdings to investors.
