There’s a French expression “plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose” (the more that changes, the more it’s the same thing), which might be the motto of my legal career.
What brought this to mind is an article I saw in Above the Law about a lawyer in New Orleans who advertised for an associate, offering the successful candidate the chance to earn while she learned, with a $1,000-per-month stipend. The thing that caught my attention was the money, because that’s exactly what I earned in my first law job 37 years ago.
