A Connecticut-based pet food company has agreed to pay $32 million to a settlement fund to resolve class action litigation which challenged its claims about ingredients in its products. Though Blue Buffalo Co. Ltd., based in Wilton, has denied wrongdoing, the settlement was billed by a competitor as the largest pet food class action settlement ever.

At the heart of the matter was whether Blue Buffalo breached its “True Blue Promise,” which states that its all-natural products contain no chicken or poultry by-product meals, no corn, wheat or soy, and no artificial preservatives, colors or flavors. Purina, the pet food industry’s leader, and thousands of consumers said that the claim was not true.
