An anesthesiologist with 30 years of experience has sued Stamford Hospital, saying she was retaliated against and then fired after complaining of sexual discrimination. Though she names a number of hospital officials in her federal lawsuit, Samantha Jansson focuses much of her displeasure on the chief of cardiac surgery, whom she alleges was hostile to many of the hospital’s female professionals.

Jansson started working for Stamford Hospital in 2007 as both a general and cardiac anesthesiologist. Two years later, she was asked to help develop the Stamford Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute. Jansson’s problems reportedly began when she expressed concerns to senior administrators about the qualifications of junior anesthesiologists who were hired to work in the unit.
