The legislature’s Appropriations Committee has voted to allocate $561.2 million for the Judicial Branch for the fiscal year 2016-17, which starts July 1. Though lawmakers and court officials disagree on exactly how much lower that is than the current year’s allocation, Judicial Branch officials said the figure would mean eliminating positions and closing courthouses.
However, nothing is finalized yet, as the full House and Senate still must approve a final spending plan before the end of the legislative session in May.
