On the afternoon of April 13, Connecticut’s lawyer disciplinary system began an unusually serious stress test.
The public benches in Courtroom 3A in Middlesex Superior Court were well-filled with spectators. It was the first day of an ethics hearing involving one of the state’s top trial lawyers, Kathleen Nastri. The complainants are former clients, Cathy and Domenic D’Attilo, whose 13-year-old son Danny suffered brain damage at birth. They won a record $68 million medical-malpractice verdict, and eventually settled for $25 million.
