The family of a Connecticut attorney is suing American Airlines and a South Carolina airport, claiming their decision to let passengers disembark from a commercial plane during a thunderstorm led to the attorney being struck by lightning.

Sonya Dockett, 52, died in August 2015, following injuries she suffered on June 27, 2015. Her husband, Anthony Nwachukwu of Avon, executor of her estate, recently filed the lawsuit in the South Carolina Court of Common Pleas. The litigation names the airline, Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina, and others as defendants.
