Marcela Olivera v. Trumbull Shopping Center 2 LLC & KONE Inc.: A Bridgeport jury has rendered a defense verdict in the case of a woman who sued a Trumbull mall after breaking an ankle trying to walk up an escalator whose stairs were moving downwards.

On March 21, 2011, Marcela Olivera went shopping at Westfield Trumbull with her boyfriend. As she was leaving the store Express, the metal detectors at the door began beeping. Because the same alarms had also sounded when she entered the store, Olivera didn’t stop. She headed down a nearby escalator, according to defense lawyers.
