Who knew Superior Court Judge Carl Schuman could play the saxophone? The images one conjures when thinking of what a lawyer or judge looks like rarely includes instruments, but on Thursday night, band after band full of members of Connecticut’s judicial system showed they have more talents than just those they show in the courtroom.

The event was a Battle of the Bands, a fundraiser hosted by the Hartford County Bar Association Foundation. Four bands played at the Bond Ballroom at the Homewood Suites Hotel in Hartford. Though there was no declared winner of the evening, the money raised by the bar association’s fund-raising arm will be given to local charities in Hartford that its board feels emulates their mission statement, which dictates that they are devoted to bettering the community. The total amount raised was not immediately available.
