If there had been no guns in the courthouse, there would have been no gunfight, and the two slain bailiffs, Joseph Zangaro and Ron Kienzle, would most likely be alive today.

The true heroes in our courts are the men and women manning the metal detectors at the front door. I was reminded of that this week, while reading about the shooting deaths of two court bailiffs in Michigan. They were shot to death when a prisoner grabbed one their guns. Another bailiff was also wounded. The prisoner was shot dead.
