Two California men were sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay nearly $2.4 million in restitution for their roles in a fraud scheme that gypped hundreds of homeowners with troubled mortgages out of thousands of dollars in fees for loan modifications that were never secured, Connecticut U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly announced this week.
U.S. District Judge Stefan Underhill on Monday sentenced Kowit Yuktanon, 32, and Cuong Huy King, 32, both of Westminster, California, to 18 months in prison. In announcing the sentences, federal prosecutors said the two men worked as junior members of a California firm’s sales team that falsely offered to provide home mortgage loan modifications and other consumer debt relief services to homeowners across the country, including Connecticut.
