A judge has denied Verizon Wireless’ attempt to get out of a lawsuit alleging that the telecom giant violated federal and Connecticut laws protecting disabled workers by firing a customer service representative who was out on leave recovering from a back injury.

Verizon was sued in February 2015 by Edward Green, who said he suffers from chronic back pain that was aggravated when he fell out of his chair the year before. Green, represented by Sabatini & Associates in Newington, alleges Verizon fired him because he took several months of leave to recover. The company said it already planned to fire him for dropping customer calls and not calling back.
