A New London-based manufacturing company has entered into a “deferred prosecution” agreement with federal officials and has agreed to pay $1 million for years of discharging industrial wastewater from its plant into a public sewage system without a permit in violation of the Clean Water Act.

The agreement, hammered out Tuesday between Sheffield Pharmaceuticals LLC, the U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut and other agencies, states the criminal complaint will be dismissed if the company pays the $1 million in installments over seven years and complies with environmental laws and regulations.
