Among the many things for which I am grateful is the fact that I am not required to live in Nebraska. The unremitting flatness of terrain and affect can crush a man’s spirit. And then there is the University of Nebraska, a ghastly behemoth apparently led by those not prepared to honor the agreements they make.
I confess a certain animus here. It is entirely irrational, much like a person’s taste in gods or, for that matter, beer. Born of a virgin or eternal other? Tastes great or less filling? You see, I despise the University of Nebraska’s football program. All those beefy white boys on loan from their local tractor pull societies do nothing for me. My lifelong loyalty goes to the Wolverines of the University of Michigan.
