A federal judge is allowing six current and former NFL players to move ahead with a negligence lawsuit against BB&T Corp. for allegedly allowing unauthorized financial transactions in accounts handled by the athletes' financial adviser.

In a 51-page order issued July 27, U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom in Fort Lauderdale granted summary judgment to the bank on numerous counts filed by more than a dozen professional football players.

However, she allowed Ray Lewis, Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Lito Sheppard, Fred Taylor and Derrick Gaffney to move forward with their negligence claims. The players are represented by Matthew Brenner and Ronald Edwards Jr. of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed in Orlando.
