Fireworks are expected at a forum set Friday on allowing Florida lawyers a chance to voice their opinions on one of the most controversial topics the legal community has faced in decades: reciprocity.

No vote will be taken on the issue until a Florida Bar board of governors meeting scheduled Oct. 16. Yet the forum in Tampa will give Bar president Ramon Abadin and other Bar leaders a chance to take the legal community's temperature on the issue.

Reciprocity and admission by motion are similar proposals being considered by the Bar as part of Vision 2016, a sweeping study of potential changes to the practice of law. Proposals to allow out-of-state lawyers to practice in Florida without passing the state bar exam have generated the most controversy.
