The Miami federal judge handling the Takata Corp. air bag multidistrict litigation has denied a motion by automakers for a six-month stay of the nationwide class action.

Defendants in the case, including Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., Nissan North America Inc., Ford Motor Co. and Subaru of America Inc., argued the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has primary jurisdiction.

Lawsuits for both personal injury and economic loss claims have been consolidated before U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno. Peter Prieto of Podhurst Orseck in Miami is lead counsel for the plaintiffs. With the stay denied, he set a hearing Oct. 23 on motions to dismiss.
