It's back to the driving range for investors who came close to redeveloping a West Kendall golf course but saw those plans dashed after a yearslong fight when a state appellate court sided with homeowners and Miami-Dade County.
Developers St. Andrews Holdings Ltd. and Northeastern Golf LLC won the first round of legal sparring, but a Jan. 13 ruling from the Third District Court of Appeal sided with the county and neighbors, who say a restrictive zoning covenant requires the property to remain a golf course well past the middle of this century.
The companies own 160 acres of prime real estate that once was the Calusa Golf and Country Club in a burgeoning suburb of high-end homes bounded by Kendall Drive, Southwest 104th Street and 127th and 137th Avenues, near Calusa Elementary School.
