Fort Lauderdale attorneys won a nearly $1 million medical malpractice verdict for a man whose wife died at age 60 after foot surgery.

Jeanne Marks went to Delray Medical Center for reconstructive surgery on her forefoot in May 2014. Her physician, Dr. Brian Coleman, ordered a surgical clearance examination by an internal medicine specialist ahead of the surgery.

The internal medicine doctor wrote up a 15-page report based on the examination, which included a warning that Marks was on a medication called Evista, said Kelley/Uustal attorneys Peter Spillis and Bonnie Navin, who represented the plaintiff. The drug is an estrogen modulator that helps prevent and treat osteoporosis in women.
