A motor vehicle case doesn't need to involve an actual collision to lead to a big verdict.

South Florida attorneys Gregory Ward and Adam Dougherty won $1.25 million for a Vespa driver who said he had to swerve when an SUV cut him off on Biscayne Boulevard. Though the car didn't hit him, Oswaldo Rojas Perez was thrown more than 10 yards and hurt his neck, shoulders and back, he alleged.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. on a Wednesday in 2014, when Richard Wolfson was pulling out of his North Miami office building's driveway and Rojas Perez was on his way to an evening class. Wolfson turned into the right lane in front of Rojas, forcing him to swerve left and lay his Vespa scooter down, according to the complaint filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
