Terrell “Terry” Iandiorio, a 46-year-old litigation and government enforcement counsel at Ropes & Gray in Boston, drowned in a rip current last week in Nantucket, a popular island vacation spot off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

According to local news reports, a lifeguard found Iandiorio face down in the rough waters off Nobadeer Beach around noon on Aug. 16. The beach was closed to swimmers at the time due to a high surf caused by Hurricane Gert. Rescuers pulled more than 25 people from the water and were looking for a child in distress when they reportedly found an unresponsive Iandiorio.

Iandiorio, who was honored last year for his pro bono work, was remembered by his family as an “outstanding father to his two children, a committed husband, a caring brother and son, and a loving friend to all the people whose lives he touched so deeply every day,” said a statement provided to The Boston Globe.
