Some South Florida state courts and at least one law school have announced closures as the region braces for Hurricane Irma in the Atlantic Ocean.

All Miami-Dade courts and Clerk of Courts' offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Court administrators announced bond hearings would follow a weekend or holiday schedule at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building at 1351 NW 12 St. in Miami.

Courts in Monroe County—Florida's southernmost county—are also taking precautionary measures. State courts there will close Wednesday and won't operate for the rest of the week.
