Two well-known South Florida attorneys may continue to oppose each other in litigation even though one once represented the other, an appellate court ruled.

Miami attorney Andy Hall is free to pursue a lawsuit against his former client and Dania Beach lawyer Jeremy Alters, the court ruled Wednesday, because Hall's representation of Alters was in a completely separate matter and ended years before the current litigation was filed.

“In the current case, Hall will not be required to attack work that he performed for Alters,” the Third District Court of Appeal ruled. “The two disputes are not substantially related. Indeed, they have absolutely nothing to do with each other.”
